INTERNSHIP | WEEK 2
Week 2 out of 6 down! I'm actually starting to feel like a commuter and I think I'm just about getting the hand of it!
Where last week was all about getting to grips with a new working environment and company, this week was a lot more about research and getting my head down in my opinion. I was a lot more comfortable this week, not just with the working environment being such a dramatic change, but also smaller things like the commute, being in a busy environment when travelling, working with software in different ways... all of which I will get into shortly, but firstly a run down of my duties this week!
I started of the first day finishing up some of my mood boards from the first week and getting feedback from the brand as to if they needed more research and what they liked about what I had found. I found this quite helpful, but I can't say it wasn't something I felt completely comfortable doing. At first I found it difficult to ask for advice or to speak up when I had completed something, however, now feeling more comfortable, this was something I wad able to do and am glad that I did!
After finishing up and having a nice chat, I then moved onto a bit more design work. The company I am interning with bases a lot of their collections around graphic prints and less about the silhouettes which is something that I was hoping to explore. At university, there isn't much opportunity for printing or print designing so I was eager to get stuck in.
I began by using previously sourced images and using my iPad, along with the Apple Pencil, on procreate to draw my own sketch of the photos. I thought that this might make it easier when creating vectors later down the line as it would mean: 1. I already had a good understanding of the image to work from as a base and 2. It would provide me with a clear image to use to create the prints from.
I then transferred these onto my laptop and used Adobe Illustrator to create vectors for the prints.
After completing these, I then added colour in accordance to the SS 2020 and AW 20/21 predictions and with the guidance of the designer.
Next week's plans are to complete some more on my report (which I will also be talking about in the next blog post) along with doing some pattern cutting for the new collection!
