INTERNSHIP | WEEK 1

So... One week down, five more to go. I have to say, I wasn't really sure what to expect when coming into this internship, mainly because of all the different stories from different people.
My first day, Monday, was more getting comfortable with a change of space and also learning the ropes of my journey and being in a design studio as opposed to at home or in Uni working.
The internship is in a complex of art and design studios so it gave me the opportunity to introduce myself to other artists and people in the building which made for a very nice atmosphere to walk into.

I spent the vast majority of the first and second days looking through WGSN finding future trends with colour and print, that would be applicable to the company's next collection. This was quite a helpful exercise for me too as it allowed me time to catch up on information the would inform by future design choices too for third year. I think the key to an internship, especially when doing exercises you wouldn't consider so hands on, is to find ways that it would help you in the future and make sure you make the most out of the experience.

During the third day, I was given the task of designing and drawing from my research. I proceeded to do a couple of small sketches for potential prints relating to my concept research, keeping in mind the company's previous collections. I then moved on to designing some more complete outfits and design ideas for the collection. This is something so familiar in my design process at university so I felt really comfortable just getting designs down for this new concept.
I was using the iPad 6th Gen with the Apple Pencil to do my design work and if there's anything I couldn't recommend more, it would be this pairing. Particularly with doing an internship, it makes travelling so much easier as you can do all your sketched and design work just on the iPad and either share electronically or print from there.

So, onwards and upwards, here's to next week, where I will hopefully get to experience a bit more to what the process of creating your own line entails and also, I'm hoping to start working on my business report on the company... which I am DREADING!
