Britain's Homelessness

I know this sounds a little off beat and down compared to my usual posts on this blog, but I feel what I have to say needs to be heard.
Currently, as I walk through cities like Manchester, I find it hard to walk around  corner and not be confronted by something I feel is disappointing, unnecessary or even, quite frankly, disgusting. I am sure as I expand on this you will agree...

Every other weekend I travel to my fathers house in Manchester and quite a lot of the time we go into the centre to see whats going on and to do a little shopping. Wether it be for just half an hour or a full day, I am confronted by the same thing every day and its quite shocking. Homelessness is a massive issue here in Britain and I think it needs to stop. Every corner you turn, every step you take, theres someone else, less privileged than yourself, sat by your feet asking for money to survive another day.

When visiting Manchester as a child, one man always stood out to me; he'd ask everyone if they were having a good day, he'd always ask if you were happy and he'd never dream of pressuring you into giving him money or you giving him any sympathy, he just wanted to be happy from knowing that we were. As a girl of 16, I know of many reasons people end up living on the streets of many cities and towns all across the country and in some cases, it is their bad choices that have lead then to be in the predicament they are in, however, many just never had the chance to make money for themselves or afford an education or shelter and this is something that I think needs to change.

I understand that once your taxable income, above your personal allowance is over £150,000 then you must pay the additional rate of 45% income tax. Now lets say if one person’s income tax was at this rate and they were earning exactly £150,000 a year, they would be paying a total of £53,643 a year in taxes. Im sure to any family in the UK, £150,000 is a lot of money. If you took, for example, 1% of this, being £536.00, you could give one homeless person just over £10 (£10.31) each week of the year to live on until they can get back onto their feet and have a life that they have the right for.

This is so shocking to me and I know this needs to be different and to be changed very quickly and Im sure a lot of you will agree...
