Starting a new school...
So... It's around a month until everyone starts another year of school, college or university.
You may be nervous, excited, or in my case... trying not to think about it...
Starting a new school...
Starting a new school can be very daunting and sometimes you don't know what to think or do to prepare for it.
For me, starting secondary school was one of the most daunting times of my life so far. Previously I had lived in a quaint village in Greater Manchester, attending a primary school of a mere 101 pupils. Suddenly my life felt like it was turned upside down as I had to pack my things and move to Derby, where i currently live.
This was a big change in my life but what I was dreading the most was attending a school of over a thousand pupils as apposed to my usual 101.
On the first day my mum walked my to school, lame I know but I was nervous and that little added support is sometimes a necessity.
As we approached the school my stomach did flips and all I wanted to do was go back home...
But, a few seconds later a kind year 11 asked me how I was and proposed to walk me to where I was meant to be.
My worries disappeared as I realised, I was not on my own. Everyone in that school had gone through what I was feeling and was willing to help, all you need to do is ask for help and it will come to you.
So don't worry, be yourself and be confident. It may seem daunting at first but trust me... It's not all that bad...
Starting college or sixth form...
If you're about to start sixth form or college you are in the same position as me currently.
I have my results in 18 days and the start of a completely new experience in just over a month.
I feel almost as nervous as I did starting my secondary school.
Thankfully I have been able to gain a place in my current school's sixth form so the change isn't too drastic.
All I can say is, don't freak out. Many of my friends from higher years have been telling me how relaxed and similar it is to being in secondary school only with a few extra responsibilities.
You need help? Ask. Don't know what to do? Ask. Its the same as being at a normal school. You are expected to be more independent in your work but that doesn't mean they want you to sit and struggle so don't.
It will all be fine and you will end up loving it, I can almost guarantee... Just be prepared.
I hope this helped and I hope you enjoyed my first post.
